I have been an educator at various levels, from k-12 and museums to higher education, for the past 16 years. I received my B.A. from the University of Mississippi and my M.A. from the University of Alabama. I completed my Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Georgia in 2009. I have been the art teacher at Trickum Middle School for five years. My previous teaching experience includes teaching Advance Placement art at Montgomery Academy (Alabama) where my students scored in the top 15% nationally. Additionally, I taught art for the University of Alabama, Auburn University, The Dixon Gallery & Gardens, The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, The Mississippi Museum of Art, The Art Institute, The University of Georgia, and Oglethorpe University.

In November 2008, I was selected out of more than 10,000 teachers as the District Teacher of the Year for Gwinnett County Public Schools, the fifteenth largest school system in the United States. In April 2009 I was also named as the National Art Honor Society Sponsor of the year by National Art Education Association. In 2010 I was named The Great American Teacher of the Year by Great American Financial in conjunction with the Ron Clark Academy. Mr. Clark was the 2000 Disney Educator of the Year, he started the Great American Teacher Awards with some of the original sponsors of that program when Disney dropped it 2005. The DTOTY award radically changed Mr. Clark’s life and he wanted other educators to have the same opportunities a national award afforded him. Out of more than 6000 nominees, I was thoroughly excited and surprised to be the only Georgia teacher included among the five finalists for this national award. I still cannot believe I was the national winner and that my students and I got to appear on CNN and PBS.

I am a frequent presenter at both state and national education and art education conferences. I have presented at both the Page Summer conference (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) and the FEAST (Future Georgia Educators Spring Training). Additionally I have made 6 presentations at state art education conferences and 13 presentations at the National Art Education Association Conference.
